EMBODIED FUTURES: DESIGNING FOR LIFE

Embodied Futures definition by Monika Bielskyte: A joyful, sensorially expansive future vision and research approach that re-centers life as the most futuristic inspiration, not a constraint that should be optimized away.

    CONTEXT: BEYOND
    EUGENIC FUTURISM

Futurism as has been mired in eugenic assumptions and alienated from our lived reality: defining the future as an inevitability shaped by decontextualized technology and the disembodied “intelligence”. But in truth, the future happens through our bodies and to our bodies. Worthwhile innovation must support, not undermine Life.

    LIFE-CENTRIC

    DESIGN APPROACH
User-Centric and Human-Centric design are flawed assumptions based on outdated models of the world.  The Life-Centric design approach is a methodology anchored in updated scientific understanding of the interconnectedness between humans, our societies, and the living ecosystem we are interdependent with.

INCLUSIVE EMBODIMENTThe future of embodiment is not about bodily appearance, or even quantitative performance, but, above all, how we feel within our bodies. Embracing accessible, disability / neurodivergence led innovation is not a luxury / niche afterthought, but a means to deliver lasting value through better tech, products, platforms and spaces.
